Carmen, the wire sculpture, is a mesmerizing vortex of intricate metallic strands that seem to pull you in with an irresistible force. Its circular shape is reminiscent of a black hole, as if it's a gateway to another dimension or a portal to a different time or place. It's a beautiful metaphor for the human longing to escape the mundane and explore the unknown.

Racso has created an immersive experience with Carmen, inviting the viewer to take a leap of faith and enter the portal. The journey may lead to your past or future, to your dreams or fears, but the destination is entirely up to you. Like a black hole, Carmen has a magnetic pull that cannot be resisted. It symbolizes our innate curiosity and desires to seek adventure and new experiences.

The inspiration behind Carmen comes from the idea of portals and doors leading to unknown destinations. Where does Carmen lead? That's up to the viewer's imagination. Perhaps it's a journey to the past, a trip to the future, or a step into the unknown. The possibilities are endless.
In a world that can often feel limiting and confining, Carmen is a reminder that there is always a way out, always a new path to explore. By closing our eyes, taking a deep breath, and stepping through the portal, we can embark on a journey of self-discovery and endless possibilities.

About The Artist

Racso J. (Racso Jugarap) A self-taught artist from the Philippines who has always been fascinated with creations. Growing up to be the youngest son of a jewelry crafter, Racso had already been exposed and seen playing with the tools in his father’s workshop, creating toys, or making a very intricate school project. Later on, while studying Hospitality Management, he had already been commissioned to do pieces for hotels and business establishments.

He was given an opportunity to travel around the world working as a chef and to see the beauty, energy, and culture the world has to offer. Now living in Belgium and having to experience firsthand how art has been part of most of the people's lives, this inspired him to share his art to the public that has been kept hidden for so long. Curves have been always an element in his works. For him, curve shapes express fluid movement and it could be dynamic. It depends on how much the curve is in the object, the less curve the calmer.
